15. Fondue Bar
This one is exactly as it sounds. It's fondue! You can have different fruits, veggies, breads, etc. and then combine them with your favorite chocolate and cheese fondue dips! We like this one because it's not something you see at every wedding, yet it's still a simple and not-too-crazy food bar. It doesn't fall too far from traditional wedding food stations.
Mashed potatoes are a staple as far as wedding dinner "sides". It's a comfort food and a carbohydrate that goes so well with most entrees. With this food bar, it allows your guests to customize this side according to their own taste! If you ask me---extra cheese and bacon please!
S'more what? We LOVE this idea. It's so fun and trendy right now, especially for fall and winter weddings! It's a fun dessert that is elementary to start with and so basic, but you can change up that original s'more with some fruit, or Reese's cups, or caramel syrup! And the kids at your wedding will love it too! (Don't forget to talk to your venue about open flames.)
So maybe this is the serious foodie in me, but french fries could be considered a 5-star meal just on their own. What I love about "fry" bars are that they completely understand my indecisive need for something sweet AND salty all at the same time! You can have different cuts of fries (crinkle, wedge, shoestring), different potatoes (regular or sweet potato), different oils and salts/spices (truffle oil, sea salt, paprika) AND toppings/dips (chili, gravy, chipotle mayo, etc). Sooooo pass me some sweet potato fries with sea salt, covered in melted blue cheese, please and thank you.
Pasta holds a dear place in my heart. Nothing says comfort, to me, like a huge bowl of pasta with meatballs and marinara sauce...Kaiti says it’s a bowl of fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Let your guests decide what pasta they like best with a Pasta Bar! Mix it up with different hand-made pastas, different sauces, and special add-ins like meats, cheese's, and veggies!
All my southerners will love this food bar! Down here, in the south, we love some good biscuits! The cool thing about this bar is you have a variety of spreads. You can have flavored honeys, butters, and jellies! It's the best food bar for your "cocktail hour". Everyone loves a little bread before his or her meal---we're just trying to spruce up that old song and dance.
Another southern food, shrimp and grits! This combo is a necessity for some of us below the Mason-Dixon line. Some may just have a "grits bar" and you can add the shrimp if you choose, but most southerners won't do it without their shrimp. This is number 9 on our list because it adds personality to your wedding. It adds originality, and a touch of southern charm all in one!
Kaiti liked the Pancake bar idea, and I liked the Waffle bar idea, so these two share the number 8 spot because they really fall under the same category. If you haven't heard of these fun breakfast-style bars, you are missing out! This food bar is truly a whole meal in itself. Add fun fruits and syrups to try with these breakfast staples/originals with. A bacon and banana pancake with regular maple syrup will make just about any guest happy.
PIZZA!!! What a great food! So many sauces and cheeses and toppings one can use! Another kid-friendly food, your guests can go basic with a simple cheese or pepperoni pizza, or something crazy like a Thai-peanut sauce with shrimp and cilantro!
Ok, yes this one is tad bit over-played now, but rightfully so. Not everyone is into cake, so why not go against the norm and give your guests a selection of desserts to choose from?! I think cupcakes and pies are so "tres chic" right now. It's a super cute touch to your dessert bar. You can do desserts in mason jars, cake pops, brownies, WHATEVER! There is probably more freedom in this food bar than any other on our list, which is why it's one of our favorites.
This one is for all our carnivores out there! Burgers are a fun, hands-on, food to add to your menu. And like everything else on this list, there are SO many ways to customize it. You can pick to have them in styles such as a southwestern style, or southern style. Or you can just have an array of toppings like fried eggs, onion rings, pickles, veggies of all sorts, sauces, and even Mac and cheese...!
So on that note, this seriously amazing basic, turned gourmet, can be added to your wedding as a food bar too! Mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods, so I had to have it in the top 5 on our list. Similar to the pasta bar, you can pick your pasta, but for this one you pick which cheese you want as your sauce. You also would include what you want mixed in...if any (just cause mac and cheese is so good even by itself). Bacon, lobster bits, or sausage. OR any number of veggies including tomatoes, roasted red peppers, or broccoli. Maybe even throw in some crushed Ritz crackers too....just cause you can!
Have no fear---this one was NOT slipping off our list. For many coastal weddings, southern weddings, and most destination weddings, having a raw bar is a must. Everyone loves some oysters by the half shell and a shrimp cocktail. You could even add mussels, clams, or even my fav---SUSHI!! What better way than to have all this spread out on a bar for your guests to come and choose as they will? You don't even need a chef to man this food bar!
This one is too fun! Having a southwestern/mexican type bar at your reception adds a very festive, and original idea to your food. This one is our second favorite because it's new, it has not been over-played. However, it's still a huge meal option that can either be styled up and made fancy or toned-down and made casual.
Our number one place is held for THE Grilled Cheese Bar. I mean, let's be honest, we can all get down on some awesome grilled cheese's. But the reason it's our number one (you know, besides that it's so darn delicious) is because the platforms that you can change up in a grilled cheese is truly limitless...more so than the others! You can have a selection of breads and a selection of different cheese's, and leave it at that. OR you can up the ante and add the "extras", like difference sauces such as mayo, BBQ sauce, mustard, etc., or different meats like BBQ pork, bacon, chorizo sausage, etc. And even some veggies like caramelized onions, roasted peppers, tomatoes, just to name a few! I mean with all these crazy options, it's possible that each guest at your wedding could end up with a different "grilled cheese". And that, ladies and gentleman, is why Grilled Cheese Bar takes the Number One spot on our favorite food bars to have at your wedding!
